Our clients purchased this 1956 rambler from the original owner, and it was a time capsule with all its midcentury aesthetic intact. The design intent was to update the home to match the clients’ modern needs in a way that honored the original aesthetic. This was accomplished through stained birch cabinetry and flooring, round tapered vanity legs, updated lighting seamlessly mixed with salvaged originals, and midcentury furniture pieces that the homeowners had been collecting. The best surprise during the renovation was the original trusses were built in a manner which allowed a dramatic vault to be easily added in the kitchen-great room, as well as the master bedroom. Our favorite design feature is the lower-level family room with its original bar which was disassembled and rebuilt to accommodate modern plumbing fixtures and new countertops. The homeowner’s own accessories, glassware and art added so much character to this beautifully remodeled forever family home!
